Shipping Policy

Shipping Method
I ship using Priority Mail, with insurance and delivery confirmation. I usually ship within 24 hours of receiving an order.
Shipping address
Let me know if it is a gift and I can include a personalized note from you on my letterhead.

If the “Ship To” address is different from the “Bill To” address and you are using PayPal to pay, please make sure to specify that same “Ship To” address when making the PayPal payment.

I will ship to the address listed in “Ship To” in PayPal.   Providing me with the wrong “Ship To” address in PayPal will result in a delayed shipment and increased shipping costs. If a purchase is returned due to an old or invalid “Ship To” address, the buyer ir responsible for the additional cost of reshipping the purchase.
Delivery Times
Priority Mail is typically speedy. For destinations on the East Coast, you can expect the package within. 2 days of the shipping date. For cities in the central US and the west coast , expect 3-4 days. Feral Glass cannot control delivery times, and I ask your patience if a shipment is somehow delayed in route.

Each box is given a tracking # when it ships and you can check its progress on-line. Creating an account here at feralglass.com makes it easier for you to access information on your order(s).
Tracking Orders
You will be able to access the Tracking Number for your order by logging into your account. If you did not create an account, email me for the tracking #.
International Shipping
I will ship internationally on a case-by-case basis. Email me to discuss the situation.

I quit offering international shipping as a regular service after being badly burnt by a foreign buyer who refused to pay the customs duty imposed by their government and who then demanded a full refund.

I am happy to ship anywhere, as long you agree to pay any customs fees that may be imposed, and seem reasonably sane. Email me with your selections and address and I will give you a firm shipping quote.
Damage Claims
My sculptures are carefully packaged in layers of bubble-wrap, peanuts and sturdy boxes. Roughly 98% of my shipments arrive quickly, without mishap. However, accidents do happen. If a package arrives damaged, please keep all of the packaging material and box.

All shipments are insured for their full value, including the packaging and shipping. If an item arrives damaged you, the recipient, has two options for filing the insurance claim. You can file it on-line or in person at the PO. These two methods are outlined below.

To file on-line, you visit the USPS web site at http://www.usps.com/insuranceclaims/online/

Filing online is quicker and easier than in-person filing, and you get to keep the damaged piece. You will need a digital image of the damage to attach to the claim. List Feral Glass, the shipper, as the payee of the insurance settlement.

When you file the claim you will get an email confirmation which will contain a Claims #. Please email me the claims # so that I can follow up on the claim if needed. Then you can pick a replacemant piece and I will ship it right away.

To file in person, you take the damaged item and all the packaging down to the PO most convenient to you and initiate the claims process. This can be any PO convenient for you, and not necessarily the PO that delivers your mail.. I will email you a copy of the insurance receipt. You will need to give them the insurance receipt AND a copy of the invoice when filing the claim. The PO will keep the damaged item and the packaging.

You may wish to call the PO first, to see if there is a "claims specialist" you need to see, or if you can speak to any clerk. Large PO's tend to specialize, so it is good to make sure the right person will be there when you go.

That first step is all that is required of you, but the claim cannot be filed unless you do that. Send me a copy of the claim form or the claim # and I will let you pick a replacement piece, which I will ship right away.

Materials and Technique

The Glass
Feral Glass garden sculptures and stained glass panels are made of stained glass manufactured here in the USA.

Most of the glass I use is hand-poured into sheets at the Wissmach Glass Company in Paden City, WV.

The molten glass is mixed with different metals and metal oxides to create the vibrant colors. The crucible of molten glass is then poured by hand into a roller that looks like a giant pasta machine. The glass is formed into the proper thickness, with whatever texture is desired. I use a variety of glass textures including English Muffle, Hammered and Rough Rolled, as well as just flat sheets.

Wissmach Glass is the same glass used at the US Capital Building and the White House, as well as many prominent houses of worship.

I hand pick the glass sheets at the Wissmach foundry Paden City, WV. Located on the Ohio River in northwest West Virginia, it is a beautiful but long drive each time I go on glass buying trip. I leave my house in central Virginia. at 5:30 am and arrive at the foundry about 11:am after a five and half hour drive through the Appalachian Mountains. I spend about 3 hours selecting glass, and then arrive home just after the sun has set behind my Blue Ridge Mountains.

The Other Materials
Feral Glass garden art runs wild on legs of solid brass. Zinc channel metal is used to frame some garden panels. Using the Tiffany technique, the glass is edged with copper foil, and joined together by hand using solder.

A black oxidizing patina is applied, which will weather over time to give a soft, natural finish to the piece.

My hanging panels come with a length of black jack chain for hanging. I will also include a length of monofilament line for hanging if you would like some.

Installation and Maintenance

Installation of Garden Sculptures
Be sure to soak the soil well prior to insertion of the metal legs.

Grasp both legs at the base of the glass and push gently but firmly into the soil.

The Garden Sprits and garden panels have legs of sturdy brass. Once inserted 2” to 2.5” into the soil, they will withstand winds up to 40mph without any ill effect.

Maintenance of Garden Panels
Being vertical, the rain keeps them clean. You can gently hose them down if they become speckled by perching birds or soil splashed up during a rain. Avoid scrubbing of the edges of the glass.

Feral Glass may be wind proof, but is not chaise lounge proof. They can be damaged by flying lawn furniture and debris. You may wish to bring them in if tropical force winds are predicted.

Installation of Hanging Panels
Feral Glass stained glass panels for hanging in a window come complete with a length of jack chain and can be hung from a cup hook or a nail. I often use monofilament line to hang my own panels, since it gives the illusion of having the glass floating in space. I will gladly include a length of monofilament line if you like, so that your glass can float too.

Maintenance of Hanging Panels
No special care is required. You can use a damp sponge of cloth is they get dusty. Avoid harsh chemical cleansers and vigorous scrubbing.

Weather and Feral Glass

I field test each new design style for a full year in three different climate extremes before offering that style for sale. I have testers in Texas, Florida and New Hampshire who give me updates on how their garden art is faring in each season.

The taller Garden Spirits have an open-air design that allows the wind to pass through with no effect. Rain and light snow also have no ill effect. The garden sculptures add a lot of color to an otherwise white landscape.

Avoid the accumulation of ice on the tall Garden Spirits. The weight of the ice can become too much and, like a power line, bring things tumbling down. Light rain that freezes is not a problem, but continued buildup of ice is.

Heat and cold also have no ill effects. Stained glass is very rugged material and is unaffected by the stresses caused by changing temperatures.

Custom Orders

I love to do custom work. I will work with you to find a design and color scheme that fits your needs. I do window panels, large or small. I will make a series of garden panels for you with special color combinations, at your request.

Email me with your request and/or fill out the brief form using the Custom Order button on the Feral Glass Home page. I will often ask you to email me a photo of the intended site for the piece. This helps me to visualize the best design, and I often pick up on a color or a shape in the area that helps the piece fit in and make a leasing addition to the room and the view.

I will give you a firm price after we discuss the design. My prices are based on the costs of time and materials and an estimated shipping charge. I ask for one-half down as a non-refundable deposit before beginning work. The balance is due before the completed piece is shipped.
